AR Rahman to receive doctorate from Berklee College of Music
The
Mozart of Madras, Academy Award-winning composer AR Rahman will be
given an honorary doctorate this October 24 from Berklee College of
Music. The function will have a 60-piece Berklee student-and-faculty
ensemble paying tribute to Rahman's two decade-long musical legacy,
which includes his film songs and his compositions for the 2012 Olympic
Games and international collaborations. Past honorary doctorate
recipients include Jimmy Page, Annie Lennox, Willie Nelson, John
Williams, Aretha Franklin, Paul Simon, Sting, Howard Shore, Clint
Eastwood, Alan Silvestri, Amar G Bose, and Gloria Estefan.
