Prevention of HMPV
Prevention of HMPV
The same precautions that help prevent other respiratory viruses apply to HMPV:
1.
Hand
Hygiene:
o Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at
least 20 seconds.
o Use alcohol-based hand sanitiser when soap isn’t
available.
2.
Avoid
Close Contact:
o Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
o Stay home if you feel unwell to prevent
spreading the virus.
3.
Cough
Etiquette:
o Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or elbow
when coughing/sneezing.
o Dispose of tissues immediately and wash your
hands.
4.
Disinfect
Surfaces:
o Regularly clean frequently touched objects
(e.g., doorknobs, phones, and toys).
5.
Masks:
o Wear a mask if you’re sick or in crowded indoor
areas, particularly during outbreaks.
6.
Boost
Immunity:
o Maintain a healthy diet, exercise regularly, and
get adequate sleep.
o Consider vaccinations for related illnesses like
influenza or pneumonia, as these can weaken respiratory defences.
