Management of HMPV Symptoms
Management of HMPV Symptoms
HMPV
is a viral infection, and as such, there is no targeted antiviral therapy
available. The approach to management centres on alleviating symptoms and
facilitating the recovery process.
At-Home Care:
1. Rest: Allow your body to recover.
2. Hydration: Drink plenty of fluids to stay
hydrated, especially if you have a fever or are experiencing congestion.
3. Over-the-Counter
Medications:
o Acetaminophen (paracetamol) or ibuprofen
for fever and aches.
o Decongestants or saline nasal sprays for
nasal congestion.
o Cough syrups or lozenges for throat
discomfort (consult for children under 6 years).
4. Humidifiers: Use a cool-mist humidifier to ease
breathing.
5. Nutrition: Eat light, nutritious meals to support
your immune system.
When to See a Doctor:
- Difficulty breathing,
wheezing, or severe coughing.
- High fever (e.g.,
>38.5°C or 101.3°F) that doesn't respond to medication.
- Signs of dehydration
(dry mouth, reduced urine output, dizziness).
- Symptoms worsen or
don't improve after a week.
