Covering an area of 56,594 square kilometres (21,851 square miles), Croatia has a population of approximately 3.9 million people. Zagreb serves as the capital and the largest city. Government and Politics

The Croats settled in what is now Croatia during the late 6th century. Croatia gained its first international recognition as an independent nation on June 7, 879. Tomislav became the inaugural king in 925, marking Croatia's elevation to kingdom status. The country declared its independence on June 25, 1991, leading to a four-year War of Independence.

Economy

Croatia operates as a parliamentary republic, with a prime minister serving as the head of government and a president as the head of state. Its governmental framework is founded on the separation of powers among the legislative, executive, and judicial branches. The Parliament possesses legislative authority and oversees the executive branch. Currently, the Prime Minister is Andrej Plenković, while Zoran Milanović serves as the President.

Culture

Croatia boasts a developed economy classified as high-income. The service sector is the predominant force in the economy, followed by industry and agriculture. Tourism plays a crucial role in generating revenue. On January 1, 2023, Croatia adopted the euro as its official currency. The real GDP per capita is projected to be $45,702 (PPP) in 2024.

Croatia's cultural landscape is a fusion of influences from Western, Central European, and Mediterranean traditions. The nation boasts a wealth of intangible cultural heritage, holding 15 of UNESCO's masterpieces of intangible culture, placing it fourth globally.
